Energy Flow refers to the transfer of energy. Energy flow of living organisms starts with sunlight through the process of photosynthesis. The energy then travels through the food chain. Primary producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers etc. are all part of the food chain. Energy flow cycles through the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

This is important to high school and middle school teachers for the state requirements for science learning including the GSE's and GLE's. Teachers can know what resources to use to get started on planning their lesson that will prepare the students for their testing and to move on to the next level where they will learn these concepts in further detail.

One resource found in the CML for middle school students would be Mc Dougal and Littell's Life Science. Chapter two introduces the cellular capture of energy and how it is released.

Also on the shelf at the CML is Glencoe's Biology an Every Day Experience In Chapter 19 it covers the importance of leaves and how they capture energy to make food.

Another resource is Glencoe Science's Biology there are useful resources in Chapter 2 and Chapter 8 discussing food webs with the flow of energy in an ecosystem and the cycling of matter, and Cellular Energy covering how organisms obtain energy and the cycle of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
